Strategy
You'll only run into Rough Eaters in the final room of the cave, The Great Hall of Foul Creatures. You'll see them running around on the map chasing you, and if you touch one you'll enter battle with them (to move on you'll have to face a minimum of three groups.) They don't have any special abilities, to my knowledge, but their physical attacks do between 125 and 225 damage, usually, and they come in groups of four. They have an elemental weakness to wind, so the quickest way to kill one is to cast Winda with either Cooke, Jansen or Ming, and follow it up with a physical attack from Kaim or Seth.
